Parents Who Left 6-Month-Old Alone on Beach for an Hour Avoids More Trouble.

A Texas couple accused of leaving their baby girl unattended on a Florida beach last fall has a chance to put the case behind them without any conviction or extra penalties but only if they stay out of trouble for the next year.


Brian Wilks and Sara Wilks, who are from the Houston area, struck a deferred prosecution agreement in the case. According to Law & Crime, which first reported the recent court development, the couple must complete 25 hours of community service, take a parenting class, and avoid any new arrests over the coming 12 months. If they follow through, prosecutors will drop the child neglect charges.


The whole thing stems from what happened back on October 10, 2025, at Miramar Beach in Walton County. Deputies responded to calls from beachgoers who spotted a 6-month-old baby girl napping alone under a tent. Witnesses told officers the child had been by herself for close to an hour, around 56 minutes, while the parents walked down the beach with their three older kids.

When the Wilkses returned, they reportedly told deputies they had put the baby down for a nap and simply lost track of time. The sheriff’s office said both parents admitted to leaving the child under the tent before heading off with the other kids. Deputies arrested them on the spot.
