In 2016, French woman Valerie Bacot fatally shot her husband Daniel Polette, who had been r*ping her since she was 12.
He began as her stepfather, then r*ped, impregnated and married her. He also forced her into pr*stitution.
This is her horrifying story 🧵
Valérie Bacot's parents separated in 1992. Her mother, Joëlle Aubagne, was an authoritarian alcoholic.
In December 1992, Joëlle's partner, Daniel Polette, moved in and began r*ping Valérie when she was just 12.
Polette was sentenced in April 1996 to four years in prison for se*ual assault on a minor under the age of 15.
After serving two and a half years in prison, he was released and returned to the family home, where the abuse started again.
At 17, Valérie Bacot became pregnant as a result of one of the assaults, and her mother subsequently expelled her from the house.
At the time, however, her mother denied any abuse, characterizing the relationship between Bacot and Daniel Polette as being love.
Bacot then moved with Daniel Polette, her stepfather, to the nearby town of Baudemont, where they married.
The couple stayed married for eighteen years and had four children together.
Her husband then forced her to pr*stitute herself in a converted minivan.
Bacot claimed that Polette pointed an unloaded weapon at her multiple times, pulling the trigger each time while threatening to load the weapon the next time.
On 13 March 2016, Bacot was r*ped by a client. Later, she shot her husband in the back of the head with his pistol.
In October 2017, Bacot and her children were arrested.
Bacot was charged with murder, and her children were charged with concealing a corpse.
On 21 November 2019, the children were sentenced to 6 months' suspended prison for concealing the body.
Bacot's trial began on 21 June 2021, and she was sentenced to four years in prison, with three years suspended. Because she served one year in pre-trial detention, she was released immediately.
